Discovered the effectiveness of lavender oil on burns, after injuring his hand in a small laboratory explosion and subsequently treating it with the oil. The effect of lavender oil on burns is remarkable.

Dr. H. Sztark:

A French medical inspector of schools in the 1930’s,
influenced by Gattefosse. Introduced vaporization of
a mixture of essential oils to every school he visited,
for use in all class-rooms. This, he wrote, had a dual
purpose: Being both volatile and antiseptic, essential
oils are the ideal means of preventing the spread of
airborne infection.

Dr. Jean Valnet:

An army surgeon, who had been greatly influenced by
the work of Gattefosse. He used essential oils as
antiseptics in the treatment of wounds. In 1964,
he began teaching other doctors about the healing
benefits of essential oils.
