our company and its achievements

~ November, 2001 ~

1994:

We became very interested in the use of plant essences which historically have been used for relaxation and natural healing of the psyche and body, after being introduced to aromatherapy by an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (A.R.N.P.).  After participating in a course of study, we became certified as "Aromatologists", as we were not licensed in the health care field.

1995:

Even though our instructor preached the safety of using therapeutic grade (non-commercial grade) essential oils, to make sure that their use had not harmed the public, we asked our father, an attorney concentrating in Medical Malpractice, Products Liability and other complex litigation to research this area from a legal standpoint. (He has represented doctors, manufacturers, vendors, insurance companies from the defense side, and injured persons from the plaintiff’s side, in over 25 years of practicing law.)
In September, I, along with my sister, Kristen, founded Aromatherapy Associates, Inc., a closely held Florida corporation. The purpose of Aromatherapy Associates, Inc. was to create an awareness for the use of non-commercial grade essential oils and provide a venue from which non-commercial grade essential oils could be obtained by the public, as:
        a. the literature we reviewed in the certification process revealed wonderful results when using quality essential oils.
        b. all of our friends who used our different essential oils and blends, as well as everyone else, marveled at the results they obtained when using these essential oils.

1996:

A year of continued preparation, research and learning.
During 1996, we ventured in to the public’s eye, and to continue to test the public’s reception of aromatherapy, our lecturer spoke at bookstores, discussing the merits of several recently published books on aromatherapy. It was after speaking at Barnes & Nobles and Borders that our instructor started putting together his course on aromatherapy and produced the instructional videotape: Aromatherapy, How, When, Where, and Why.

Coconut Grove Home Show:

Our booth was a resounding success! To help us decide whether to expand     our research and product line, we rented a 10 x 10 booth. We were amazed at the popularity of the booth, staffed by non-retailing amateurs, who had no sales training. We enjoyed a 60% sales rate! (Of each person massaged, at least 5 out of 10 people purchased an essential oil synergy. Of each person who only inquired about the essential oils, at least 7 of every 10 people purchased one of our synergies.)
Clients have told us that the use of our essential oil synergies have either prevented or provided immediate relief from:

Headaches, Acne, Sore necks,

Migraines, Cystitis, Sore backs,

Stress, Acute Scarring, Tennis elbow,

P.M.S., Menstrual cramps, Sore knees,

as well as:

Cellulite, Sunburn, Sore muscles,

Insomnia, Psoriasis, Arthritis pain,

A.D.H.D., Fever Blisters, Sinus congestion.

We are also told that one of our essential oil blends has successfully been used  to calm the jitters or nervousness usually felt by most people when speaking to an audience. Our "Munchie Control TM" synergy helps with dieting and weight loss management as it will relieve the urge to eat fattening snacks. The cost of all the   above relief: less than 50 cents per application (Retail: $20.00 per bottle.)
At the show, we exhibited our essential oil synergies with the diffuser that we think is the best on the market. It is designed to permit our aromatic essential oils to  be dispersed throughout the room or office, while keeping the electrical part of the diffuser away from the essential oils. (From a "purist" standpoint, this is very important.) Since using our pure, non-commercial grade essential oils with this diffuser, a long term care center has been able to keep its patients and staff much healthier during the "flu" season. If used at home, our essential oils can generate a relaxing, healthy environment, in which to sleep more restfully at night. And, using our seasonal blends, you can fragrance your home with aromas complementing each important holiday of the year.
To facilitate the use of therapeutic essential oils and blends or "synergies" of the oils, by the "Western" medical community, who wish to incorporate "alternative, or complimentary" modalities into their practice, Phyto-Medicine Company was formed. (Unfortunately, most of the public is being deprived of the benefits of therapeutic grade essential oils for two reasons: most physicians have no training in their use or benefits, and it seems that most of the current marketers of aromatherapy products are using synthetic oils or those of a commercial grade only. [Essential oils are graded on a scale of 1 - 10, grades 1 - 3 are considered to be medicinal or therapeutic; and 4 - 10, commercial.] Our oils, imported from around the world, used by Phyto-Medicine Company are grade 1 - 3; and if they are, such as Lavender, listed in the National Formulary, are National Formulary grade.)
We are very proud to inform you that Phyto-Medicine Company has been acknowledged by one of the leading publishers on alternative medicine as a provider of quality essential oils!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

1997:

The Dade County School Board

For several years, our lecturer was requested to teach a 12 week / 24 hour course, Introduction to Aromatherapy, given at the Hammocks Middle School, Adult Education Division. The class provided an intensive study of essential oils, absolutes, carrier oils, the human body (anatomically and psychologically), and taught the differences in the grades of essential oils, providing samples of non-commercial grade essential oils with comparisons to commercial grade and synthetic oils, as well as blending. His first class was in 1997.

          Miami-Dade Community College
The Continuing Education Department, Kendall Campus (employed our lecturer to participate in its November 1, 1997 Alternative Medicine Workshop).

As you may know, essential oils have been used for over 4,000 years. History teaches us that essential oils have been used for medicinal purposes, cosmetics, and perfumes.

After being invited by one of its corporate clients to The International Congress of Esthetics, sponsored by one of the leading professional trade magazines for estheticians, Les Nouvelles Esthetiques, Aromatherapy Associates’ Skin Care Division created The Twelve Synergies of Essential Oils TM. The system is designed to provide different monthly essential oils for the skin, and because of their overlapping properties is beneficial to other parts of the body as well.
After conversing with the Editor of Les Nouvelles Esthetiques, and because the awareness of aromatherapy was increasing, our attorney was invited to present an article on the legal aspects of using essential oils by estheticians.

1998:

PUBLISHED

February:

February’s issue of Les Nouvelles Esthetiques devotes six (6) full pages to the article "Essential Oils" by Robert J. Galamaga. The article discusses the History of essential oils; Legalities on use; Educational requirements; Defines essential oils; talks about safety and the Contraindications for using certain oils; the Certification process; Type, quality and grade.

May 17-18:
The Twelve Synergies of Essential Oils TM and the Blemish Blend TM are formally introduced at the IBS Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center, which were received with nothing but compliments and orders.

AGAIN PUBLISHED

June:

Les Nouvelles Esthetiques requests us to answer a question concerning the ability of the skin to absorb essential oils and our response is published in this month’s issue.   The first portion of our acne study, using our Blemish Blend TM is finished.

July:

We commenced our first "burn study" of a person receiving second degree burns from scalding hot water. The results have been outstanding. (This person was previously burned with hot cooking oil, and has expressed his amazement at how quickly our essential oils have healed the burned area of his arm. Within sixty (60) days there was normal skin coloration and no residual scarring.) The next two studies have had similar results.

We have been told by the last person who has used our essential oils for nail fungus that it has successfully worked, clearing the problem within 14 days. (This keeps us at 100% with our essential oils for nails!)

October:

We are invited to speak at the American Holistic Nurses’ Association meeting.

December:

AGAIN PUBLISHED:

The International Journal of Neuroscience, 1998, Vol. 96, pp. 217 - 224 publishes the results of a study that was conducted at the University of Miami, School of Medicine, by the Touch Research Institute. We provided the essential oils used in the study and Robert Galamaga and Mary Galamaga co-authored the article: Aromatherapy Positively Affects Mood, EEG Patterns of Alertness and Math Computations.

1999:

Perfume

Having successfully developed and tested essential oil synergies to be used on the body from head to toe anatomically; in the air to combat sick building syndrome     commercially and in the home; on skin that was acneic, dry, burned, oily, wrinkly, or leathery; we turned our research attention to creating exquisite, non-synthetic perfumes. Our first entry was entitled "Becky", named after the person for which it was exclusively designed.

Continued Research

A pre-med research project at the University of Miami indicated that certain of our essential oils are very effective in retarding the growth of athletes foot fungus.

Hotels

We have provided one of the most profitable hotels in South Florida our essential oil synergies for anatomical and facial application in the spa, under their private label. The hotel is also diffusing our Peninsula Paradise TM synergy in their suites to not only create a unique aromatic ambience, but deodorize the air and control fungal growth from excess moisture in the rooms.

Spas

We found ourselves continuing our studies with selected, medically oriented spas in the development and testing of our essential oil synergies for surgical scarring.

Name Change:
After looking at the internet as a forum for providing updated information and possibly a clearing house for scientifically important aromatherapy related information, we found that a company in the United Kingdom registered our name shortly before we tried to register our domain name as Aromatherapy Associates. Accordingly, Miami Aromatherapy, Inc. was founded.

Massage Schools

We have been invited to speak at different massage schools in Miami-Dade County and in Boca Raton on the beneficial uses of aromatherapy and have been requested by one esthetician school to be a guest lecturer there.

Licensed Massage Therapist

In December, Kristen graduated from Educating Hands School of Massage. Her mother is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and Nationally Certified Licensed Massage Therapist.

2000:

National Certification

Kristen sat for the National Certification exam and after successfully passing it became a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist. She is also licensed in the State of Florida. With her National Certification and Florida License, she is able to, unlike licensed cosmetologists and registered facial specialists and body wrappers, use her bare hands when applying oils and creams to clients. This greatly facilitates her ability to teach retail beauty consultants how to apply each of The Twelve Synergies of Essential Oils TM to the face.  Because of her stellar scholastic performance at Educating Hands, her winning personality, and her grace and charm, Kristen will be able to have unprecedented access to the best graduates of Educating Hands to help her in the creation and establishment of the premier facial care centers in the United States.
