Certification
Certification in aromatherapy means that a person has completed a course of study in a particular field and has met the standards imposed by the entity which provides the certification. It does not permit a person to go out and practice medicine or render medical advice, unless that person is otherwise licensed by an appropriate State agency. The certification is only as meritorious as the entity who provides it. Accordingly, if a person is going to study aromatherapy, a determination should be made that the course and instructor is well respected by the instructor's peers, if any, and by the people who have gone through the course.
Once you have begun your study of aromatherapy, read as many books as possible as each author may have one minor additional bit of information which will be meaningful to you. After studying for a brief period of time, you may come to the same realization that we did concerning essential oils: while they are wonderful if used properly, if you don't know about a particular oil, don't expose it to your body, as it may cause a different result than expected.
